Cykel by Brian McAllister

Posted on July 6th, 2009 in Transport

This Cykel bike is designed by Brian McAllister to be used in a bike share system. These systems are more common in Europe, but are starting to show up in some U.S. cities such as D.C. This system would use an electric assist bike to extend range capabilities and be more conducive to cities like Seattle and San Fransisco.

The Cykel was designed to be zero to low maintenance. Solid over-mold tires remove the possibility of flats; a fully enclosed drive train keeps the rider clean and clothing out of moving parts. When the bike is docked it receives a charge via the two locking points. Corian by Dupont Aluminum and steel have been used in its construction.

The Cykel bike was presented at UW Design Show 2009. UW Design Show is an event showcasing the work of the 2009 graduating BFA, BA, and MFA students in the University of Washington Design department.
