Low Lands Secretaire by Isabel Quiroga
German-born, Netherlands-based designer Isable Quiroga has created a secretaire called “Low Lands”. The design of this piece of furniture that resembles a wheelbarrow was inspired by Dutch history.
This surprising design has been inspired by the Ducth history, in particular the founding ather of The Netherlands; William I, Prince of Orange. It’s a modern version of a classic 16th century wheelbarrow and has got unique measurement based on the dates of William of Orange’s turbulent life. The length, for example, is 1,533 meter, which refers to his date of birth. The fact that the desk ios moveable reflects on William’s life on the run as being declared an outlaw. Referring to the gothic architectural period in which William was living the design of the desk is minimalistic.
